| This is the second Scenario book that covers the Swedish - Russian war of 1808-09.
1808 The Turning Tide starts where 1808 The Last Summer ended in the late August 1808. It guides the reader through 12 of the major engagements, from the first Russian probe at Nummijärvi, through major battles such as Salmi and Oravais to the grand finale at Sävar in 1809.
We will maintain format and layout in order to be easily recognised and navigated. We are also planning for 48 pages, which will allow us to cover 12 battles, but also a more detailed article on the tactics and drill used by the two armies.
Just as in the first book, each scenario comes with a short introduction explaining the general situation and particular events leading up to the battle, including a strategic map showing the situation. There will also be a detailed Order of Battle adapted to a scale where 1 figure represent about 20 men, a table top map showing the lay-out of the battle field and a set up instructions. Finally there is a report of the historical battle which links the outcome to the big picture, thus giving the reader an insight of what led to the next engagement.
While working on the 1808 project we have learnt that there is no information published on the fundamental principles of how the Swedes manoeuvred and fought in the extreme terrain of Scandinavia. To deal with this, 1808 The Turning Tide also includes an illustrated section on drills and tactics used by the two armies.
