Catan: Game of Thrones -Brotherhood of the Watch
Catan: Game of Thrones -Brotherhood of the Watch

The Brothers of the Night’s Watch seek a new leader from among their ranks. Jeor Mormont wishes to promote one who can improve the infrastructure of the Gift, the bountiful and undeveloped area south of the Wall bestowed to the Watch by the Starks thousands of years ago. Drawing sustenance from the unforgiving landscape of the north offers enough challenges, but whomever takes up this task must also man and defend the Wall against the onslaught of Wildlings fighting their way into Westeros. Many brothers now compete to build, defend, and do what they can to protect Westeros, but only one shall rise above their brothers to become the new Lord Commander. But be wary—the north holds many dangers, and winter is coming.

Fantasy Flight Games is excited to announce A Game of Thrones Catan: Brotherhood of the Watch, a standalone game of resource gathering and trading based on the classic Settlers of Catan. The battle to defend the Realms of Man begins in this new strategic game grounded in the engrossing world of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series and adapted for Catan by Klaus and Benjamin Teuber.

Your Watch Begins
House Stark bestowed the Gift to the Night’s Watch when the Order was first founded thousands of years ago. By right, this area belongs to the Watch to supply provisions to the stalwart brothers who guard Westeros from the north. In game, each of these areas supplies one of five resources: lumber, brick, wool, grain, and ore. The barren Ice Fields, however, produce nothing.

Players take on the role of Brothers of the Night’s Watch and use these resources to strengthen their hold on the north by building roads, settlements, and keeps; recruiting guards for their patrol; or buying Development Cards. Each of these acts bring players increased power and recognition through the awarding of victory points. The objective will be familiar to players of the original Catan—the first player to achieve ten victory points wins the game and becomes the new Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

But this is not as easy as it sounds; the area surrounding the Gift can be treacherous. Wildings from north of the Wall have crossed over, and follow their own rules of honor which often conflict with the laws of Westeros. One of their ranks, Tormund Giantsbane, does not respect the Watch’s claim to the land as he moves throughout the Gift, robbing resources from the Brothers sent to provide for their Order.

The Sword in the Darkness
While Tormund runs amok south of the Wall, Wildling forces gather in the Frostfangs, awaiting an opportune moment of weakness to breach the Watch’s defenses and spread throughout the fruitful lands of Westeros. In addition to building within the Gift, players must strategically balance their resources to defend the Realm from Wildling raiders. Each player may recruit up to seven brothers from the prisons of Westeros to don their specific color and man their section of the Wall.

Each player also has a hero to aide in their toil, based on the order of play. The first player first will utilize the talents of the Lord Commander himself, Jeor Mormont, while the second player will enjoy the company of Samwell Tarly, the third will work with Bowen Marsh, and forth will employ the services of Master Builder Othell Yarwyck. Each hero offers a unique ability to each player which they can use up to twice during the game. Once a hero's ability has been used, players have a choice to keep that hero or choose another of the eleven heroes to aide them. Players should factor the heroes' abilities into their strategy to quickly earn victory points and gain renown within the Watch.

At the start of their turn, a player rolls three dice: two to indicate which resources will be harvested from the Gift and one to determine which, if any, Wildlings advance toward the Wall. Once the harvest has been reaped and the Wildlings have advanced, players may trade their resources with each other or through settlements and keeps built along trade routes. Costs will vary depending on your positioning throughout the Gift, with some ports being more lucrative than others, depending on which resources you can access.

After resources have been gathered and traded, a player may build roads, settlements, or keeps; recruit guards; or buy Development Cards. However, fortifying the Wall has consequences, as those comfortable settlements and keeps attract the notice of the Wildlings. Any time a player builds a settlement or keep, they reveal a number of facedown Wilding tokens in the Frostfangs, and further their inevitable advance toward the Wall.

The Watcher on the Walls
The most important duty of the Night’s Watch is to defend the people of Westeros from the feral Wildlings that dwell beyond the Wall. The three Wildling clans in the Frostfangs consist of three Wilding types: Regular, Climbers, and Giants. Once revealed, members of these clans gather and move southward through their camps to breach the Wall and raid the Gift.

The only way for players to defend their keeps and settlements is to hire guards. While the lords of Westeros may allow the Watch to recruit members from their prisons, players must buy the loyalty of these men in order to prove their worth as a leader. To buy a guard, players must exchange one of each brick, wool, and lumber resource. Once their loyalty is secured, these guards don the color specific to each player and patrol that player's section of the Wall.

When the Wildings attack, each player must use their guards to fend off the onslaught. If there are more guards than Wildings, the Wall stands. If there are not, the Wildings invade the Gift and pillage the settlements and keeps therein. Yet loyalty only goes so far—guards are useless defending the Wall from Climbers who slip past them, and if they encounter a Giant, at least one guard is bound to desert his post.

The Shield that Guards the Realms of Men
The Wildling invasion marks the truest test of the Brothers of the Watch and your own competency as a commander. A failure at the Wall has a devastating impact on the Gift, even if it does not destroy the players. A Game of Thrones Catan: Brotherhood of the Watch has two forms of victory, though one may feel hollower than the other.

Victory occurs when a player has both improved the infrastructure of the Gift and successfully kept it safe from invaders. This is shown when a player has achieved ten Victory Points by any combination of building keeps, roads, and settlements; hiring three or more guards to keep the Wall safe; and buying Development Cards to increase their prestige, all while safeguarding the Gift.

However, if the Wildlings breach the wall three times throughout the game, an alternate victory takes place. If this occurs, the game ends immediately as the Brotherhood of the Night's Watch can no longer delay their decision. The player commanding the most guards holding their posts on the Wall gains the title of Lord Commander and wins the game. For this Night and all the Nights to Come

Take the Black. Defend Westeros. Become the Lord Commander.

• Exciting strategy game based on A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin
• Builds upon Catan gameplay with the battle against Wildlings, Climbers, and Giants
• Players develop the Gift with the help of iconic heroes of the Night’s Watch

Game of Thrones Boardgame 2nd Edition: Mother of Dragons Expansion
Game of Thrones Boardgame 2nd Edition: Mother of Dragons Expansion

Soon after the Mad King fell and in the wake of Robert’s Rebellion, the last two Targaryen children were forced to flee and hide in Essos. Now, King Robert is dead and the remaining lords and ladies of Westeros clamor to fill the space left behind on the Iron Throne. The time has come for the Targaryens to reclaim their birthright with fire and blood. With every ally and tool at their disposal and the long-forgotten fire of dragons, they will claw their way across the Narrow Sea and bring Westeros to its knees.

The Dragon Must Have Three Heads
The world of A Game of Thrones: The Board Game grows even larger with the addition of a brand-new sideboard, bringing the Free Cities of Essos to the fight for the Iron Throne. Here is where the reborn House Targaryen makes their stand, starting in the city of Pentos. Yet even though the Targaryens begin the game far from home, there are many in Westeros that wish for the once-great family to reclaim the Iron Throne. For now, they pledge false loyalty to the rulers in Westeros, but secretly, they wait for the day of the dragon to come again.

In the Mother of Dragons expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Board Game, House Targaryen has little need for castles and strongholds that are easily felled by dragonfire. Instead, their goal is to uncover the remaining Targaryen loyalists and rally them against the current holders of the Iron Throne. As such, House Targaryen does not earn victory points by capturing castles and strongholds. Instead, they track the number of territories loyal to their House—if they can claim seven of these on the victory track, they'll claim the Iron Throne and win the game!

But the key power of House Targaryen comes in the form of Daenerys’s three dragons. Each of these magnificent creatures has an entirely new unit type. Unlike soldiers, whose loyalties can be bought, dragons cannot be mustered normally. There are only three dragons in existence, after all, and they remain in play from the beginning of the game until they are killed and leave the world permanently.

Each of Dany’s dragons acts as a single land unit, attacking, defending, and obeying the same rules of supply. But unlike other military units, dragons have the ability to fly nearly anywhere in Essos or Westeros. What's more, dragons are alive, and they grow. As the game progresses, these beasts become stronger, growing from fledglings with a strength of zero at the start of the game to fearsome monsters with a strength of five by the time the battle for the throne finishes. With these creatures returning magic to the world of Westeros, who can deny the Targaryen’s divine right to rule?

Divided Loyalties
Not only does Mother of Dragons bring House Targaryen into the fray; this expansion also raises other familiar families to power by allowing you to play as House Arryn in any game of A Game of Thrones: The Board Game. With new character cards and an overlay of the Eyrie, your plots can take flight as you lead the once-insular forces of the Vale onto the battlefield. With these two new Houses and matching map pieces, you have the chance to dramatically elevate the chaos and intrigue of your campaigns by increasing the maximum number of players in the game of thrones to eight.

Beyond expanding the possibilities with more players, Mother of Dragons also makes it easier than ever to play with fewer players with the new vassal system, introducing unused Houses as neutral parties that each player can command and manipulate as an extension of their forces. However, as none of these vassals are themselves vying for the Iron Throne, their loyalties can shift in an instant, with the vassal House each player commands changing from round to round.

At the start of each round, the Houses competing for rule may choose their vassals, beginning with the most influential House on the Iron Throne track. Once the vassals have been claimed, the commanders may distribute orders to vassal units. However, while you may rely on the vassal's strength, you must be wary of these neutral forces whose loyalties are not as stalwart as your own. After all, in the next round, you could find your vassal house being used against you.

When the vassals go to war, they also will not use standard House cards. Instead, they use a new set of Vassal House cards. Here, you will find iconic characters like Varys and Jaqen H’Ghar, whose loyalties are bound to forces beyond the ties of family lineage. When you use a vassal to fight on your behalf, you will shuffle the vassal house cards and draw three from which to choose your card. Then, should your vassal win their combat, you may be rewarded for your deft leadership with a power token for your House. With a touch of tact, you can move closer to victory without even risking the lives of your own men!

The Iron Bank Will Have Its Due
House Targaryen is not the only power that waits beyond the Narrow Sea. In the city of Braavos stands the Iron Bank, perhaps the most dangerous force in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. Nestled in a seemingly impenetrable northern bay, the Iron Bank provides the lords and ladies of Westeros with favorable bank loans, allowing you and your rivals the chance to purchase powerful aid for your cause.

To take a loan, you simply choose a loan from the Iron Bank display, and pay its initial cost with your power tokens. Once you have made your payment, the loan is yours and you may resolve its effects. This may mean purchasing sellswords, recruiting a skilled tradesman, or even hiring a Faceless Man!

If none of the available loans catch your eye, you can simply wait until a more favorable (or affordable) option arises. At the beginning of each round, the loan cards of the Iron Bank slide to the left, meaning that the longer a loan goes unclaimed, the lower its cost becomes.

But be wary if you choose to do business with the Iron Bank. These shrewd moneylenders do not easily forgive debt and if you take a loan, you must pay an interest cost for the remainder of the game, discarding one power token for each loan you have purchased. And if you are ever unable to make your payments, the bank will turn to one of your opponents for recompense against you. All power comes with a price—what are you willing to pay?

Claim the Iron Throne
With the death of the usurper, the lords and ladies of Westeros have been too busy warring amongst themselves to notice the powers that gather in the East. The time has come for you to claim your birthright with fire and with blood. Cross the Narrow Sea and take back what is yours!

Game Of Thrones Card Game
Game Of Thrones Card Game

HBO’s critically acclaimed Game of Thrones television series has introduced millions to the world of Westeros, where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime. Based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones chronicles the epic struggles between the Great Houses of Westeros as they vie for control of the Iron Throne.

Now fans of the show can give new life to their favorite characters and schemes. Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of Game of Thrones: The Card Game, a two-player card game of intrigue, betrayals, and battles.

How does this release relate to the Living Card Game version?
In short, it doesn’t. Cards from this product are not in any way compatible with those of the Living Card Game, nor are they legal for tournament play. This is a simplified, streamlined version of the LCG intended for fans of the HBO series.

Stark and Lannister Vie for Dominance
From the scheming south and the savage eastern lands, to the frozen north and the ancient Wall that protects the realm from the darkness beyond, two powerful families engage in a deadly cat-and-mouse game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.

Game of Thrones: The Card Game lets two players choose their house and experience their own battles between House Stark and House Lannister.

Eddard Stark fought alongside his friend Robert Baratheon to overthrow Aerys Targaryen, The Mad King, from the Iron Throne. After the war, Eddard returned to the North, to rule in Winterfell as the Warden of the North. The Stark sigil is a grey direwolf on an ice-white field, and their House words are Winter is Coming.

The Lannisters are the wealthiest family in Westeros. When The Mad King was deposed and Robert Baratheon took the Iron Throne, he married Cersei Lannister. As Robert relies more and more upon the counsel of his friend, Eddard Stark, Cersei and the Lannisters take steps to ensure that they will keep the power they have earned. Their sigil is a golden lion upon a crimson field, and their words are Hear Me Roar!

As betrayal, lust, intrigue, and supernatural forces shake the four corners of the Kingdoms, the bloody struggle for the Iron Throne will have unforeseen and far-reaching consequences. Game of Thrones follows kings, queens, knights, renegades, liars, thieves, and noblemen as they play a deadly game for power.

Claim Power for Your House
Game of Thrones presents two fixed decks of fifty cards each, one for House Stark and one for House Lannister. Each deck includes many of the show’s most recognizable characters and locations, including Eddard Stark, Cersei Lannister, Robert Baratheon, Littlefinger, and Jon Snow, among others.

In this tense struggle for power, each player attempts to outmaneuver his foe on the battlefield, at court, and with the people of Westeros, positioning his House to claim the Iron Throne (a feat represented by the acquisition of fifteen power tokens). Over the course of a game, players use their plot cards, which represent their Houses’ various schemes and pursuits, to gain various advantages. Then, they marshall their forces. By playing characters, locations, and attachments, a player can put himself in a better position to engage his opponent in the game’s three types of challenges:

* Military: These challenges represent the fierce battles taking place across the war-torn realm. Unless he wins the challenge, the defending player must choose and kill a number of his characters in play equal to the claim value on the attacking player’s revealed plot (these do not have to be characters who participated in the challenge).
* Intrigue: These challenges evoke the subtle and secretive betrayals rampant at court. Unless he wins the challenge, the defending player must discard, at random, a number of cards from his hand equal to the claim value on the attacking player’s revealed plot.
* Power: Finally, these challenges represent the overt political maneuvering and dealmaking that can so often lead to influence. Unless he wins the challenge, the defending player must move a number of power counters from his House banner to the attacking player’s House banner equal to the claim value on the attacking player’s revealed plot.

As players win challenges, they claim power for their House. The first player to gain fifteen power has cemented his control over the Iron Throne, winning the game!

Live the Story
With its evocative imagery and rich gameplay, Game of Thrones: The Card Game captures the lush and vibrant imagery of HBO’s Game of Thrones in a format that makes a perfect two-player introduction to the world of Westeros.

It features photographs and artwork from the television series. Furthermore, Game of Thrones makes the intrigues of Westeros immediately accessible with streamlined rules and fixed decks of fifty cards each for House Stark and House Lannister. The whole experience is meant to help players dive into the game’s plots and battles as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones: The Card Game builds upon the its fixed decks by offering tremendous potential for strategy and replay with its unique rules for plot drafting. By pursuing new schemes each game, players retain a vital element of surprise.

* A two-player card game based on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones
* Features evocative images from the show, including fan favorite characters from Houses Lannister and Stark
* Streamlines the rules for the popular Living Card Game, making it more accessible to a wider audience (this product is similar to, but not compatible with, the LCG)
