It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory,” which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.

Scythe (1-5 players, 115 minutes) is a board game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor.

In Scythe, each player represents a fallen leader attempting to restore their honor and lead their faction to power in Eastern Europa. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.

Each player begins the game with different resources (strength, victory points, movement capabilities, and popularity), their choice of several faction-specific abilities, and a hidden goal. Starting positions are specially calibrated to contribute to each faction’s uniqueness and the asymmetrical nature of the game.

Scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. Other than each player’s individual hidden objective card, the only elements of luck are encounter cards that players will draw as they interact with the citizens of newly explored lands and combat cards that give you a temporary boost in combat. Combat is also driven by choices, not luck or randomness.

Scythe uses a streamlined action-selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay moving at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. While there is plenty of direct conflict, there is no player elimination, nor can units be killed or destroyed.

Every part of Scythe has an aspect of engine-building to it. Players can upgrade actions to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits to enhance character abilities, activate mechs to deter opponents from invading, and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. These engine-building aspects create a sense of momentum and progress throughout the game. The order in which players improve their engine adds to the unique feel of each game, even when playing one faction multiple times.

Scythe Fenris & Wind Gambit Insert

This Campaign 3 insert is designed to be compatible with Scythe Fenris, the Wind Gambit and Scythe Encounters expansions.

The design provides both efficient storage and improved game play. The trays can be utilised during the game, and they greatly aid set-up and clear-away times. The rules and boards act as a lid on top of the trays. This insert can be combined with FS-SCY insert in the Legendary box as described below. the insert is origanised with the miniatures on the bottom level, and the rest of the components on top. There are three card trays for the airship & resolution tiles and other large cards. There are two long trays for other game tiles, including one slot for the Tesla mono-wheel miniature. There are then two separate trays for the faction pieces. There are trays for the two faction mechs and leader miniatures, and then two large trays for the airships. The airship trays store the miniatures snugly head-to-toe in a neat order. The last airship slot is used for the ships' bases. At the end of each of the trays are slots for vertical storage of the infrastructure and mech mods. the main rulebook goes on top with the binder ring as shown. Then go the reference sheet, followed by the score-sheet and other campaign tiles. This is followed by the Wind Gambit rules and the player boards. Lastly go the combat dials. The box can be stored vertically.

This insert can also be combined with FS-SCY insert for Scythe inside the Legendary Box, with the board extension, as shown here. The best way to do this is to add the FS-SCY insert to the box with the boards on top, and then simply place the Fenris box, with FS-SCY+ inside, on top. This fills the box and holds the bottom trays in place. Alternatively, the FS-SCY+ trays can be added separately to the Legendary Box.

This product consists of a flat-pack of 6 Evacore sheets. The trays require assembly, which is quick and fun, using ordinary PVA glue. Detailed instructions are included in the package.

This Campaign 2 insert is designed to be compatible with Scythe, and the Invaders from Afar expansion.The design provides both efficient storage and improved game play. Many of the trays can be utilised during the game, and they greatly aid set-up and clear-away times. The rules act as a lid on top of the trays.

There are seven player trays, with separate slots for the miniatures and the player tokens. The eighth tray is for the combat cards and bonus tiles in one slot and the other tokens in the other slot. The combat cards can all be sleeved.

The coin slots are split to have separate slots for each size of coin. The two resource trays separate each of the four resource types.

The remaining top layer trays are for the medium sized cards, the encounter and multiplier tokens. There is space for all cards to be sleeved.

The two tarot sized card trays have space to separate the encounter and factory cards.

Again there is room for all the cards to be sleeved with quality sleeves.

The two tarot sized card trays height is designed to reach the top of the box. This leaves a carefully measured space for the board and the rulebooks.

All the trays can all be used in game to help organise components during the game, as well as speeding up setup and clear away times.

Scythe: The Wind Gambit, an expansion for Scythe, adds two new modules that can be played together or separately at any player count and with either the base game on its own or with other Scythe expansions:

* Airships: (1 miniature per faction; 16 tiles) An airship is a new type of unit that is distinctly different from characters, mechs, and workers. Unlike those units, airships never control territories. Airships are moved via a Move action, and rivers and lakes do not constrain their movement. Each airship has two randomly combined abilities (1 aggressive and 1 passive ability; same combo for all players).

* Resolutions: (8 tiles) The resolution module changes the way a game of Scythe ends. If you play with this module, ignore the standard end-game trigger (when a player places their sixth star, everything stops and the game ends). Instead, the resolution tile for the current game will determine when and how the game ends.
