An English translation of the acclaimed Spanish roleplaying game "Aventuras en La Marca del Este", Adventures in the East Mark stands at the crossroads of classic swords & sorcery and high fantasy.

Three decades ago, many of us were able to experience the thrill of buying what was likely our first role-playing game. Back then, the games often came in a beautifully covered box set. The mysteries contained within were everything we needed to play in a world of fantastical creatures and powerful warriors.

The Spanish game "Aventuras en La Marca del Este" began from the mind of Pedro Gil as a homebrew campaign for some friends in Spain playing the world's most famous game as devised in Frank Mentzer’s (BECMI) Red Box with 9 starter classes and new rules on mounted combat, aerial combat, seafaring and ship battles. Now, many years later, it is one of the most popular role-playing games in Spain. By enlisting incredible artists that are now rising stars in the RPG industry such as A.J. Manzanedo, Jorge Carrero and Víctor Guerra, the "La Marca" team produced an incredibly captivating "retroclone" role-playing game that is an old school experience wrapped in old world flare.

The medieval world of Adventures in the East Mark is a place where magic and the extraordinary are present, albeit, not in evident way to the majority of its inhabitants. In reality only the most gifted, the brave and intelligent and determined adventurers come face to face with this reality while common mortals simply try to survive, put a roof over their heads, work and sustain a family. Adventures in the East Mark is faithful to the canons that define the swords & sorcery genre, given the technological and social components of the civilization described, and the supernatural elements permeating the whole, are only perceivable to a small minority of its inhabitants (the adventurers). It is also true that there are elements of high fantasy in the setting. We could say that Adventures in the East Mark stands at the crossroads of classic swords & sorcery and high fantasy.

Valion is the most important continent in our world. It is home to some of the most representative countries of the setting. Nations such as Esmeril (the Kingdom of Elves), and the Forest Kingdom (where the East Mark is located that constitutes the eastern frontier of this old and proud human kingdom), Ungoloz and Visirtan. There are two other important landmasses, Cirinea and the Lost Continent or Ziyarid in Dormunder language. The vast oceans that occupy almost two thirds of the world, with hundreds of small scattered islands from the Meridion Ocean, to the south, until the Coral Sea, to the east, where the sailors of Kang are the lords of the waves and the hills. Prominent are the Pirate Islands, in the Sea of the Dragon, home of buccaneers, filibusters and delinquents that look for a place that is far away from the cruel and implacable arm of justice.
